Contingency Recruiter
A contingency recruiter is hired by a company to find an employee that meets that companies requirements. The recruiter is typically paid upon successful placement. The recruiter performs the initial screening and interviewing and will then schedule an interview with the hiring company. Typically, job seekers are not charged a fee for contingency recruiters.
Retained Recruiter
A retained recruiter is somewhat like a contingency recruiter and is hired by the client company to find a candidate. The client company generally pays a retainer fee up front to the recruiter and will then pay a bonus upon successful placement. Companies generally use retained recruiters for higher level positions within the organization.

Outplacement
An Outplacement agency provides job hunting resources to jobseekers that have been laid off or have re-entered the job marketplace after an extended period. At times, employers will hire outplacement agencies to assist their downsized workforce to find jobs. Outplacement agencies typically provide resume and interview assistance as well as other types of career counseling.
Staffing Agency
A temporary or contract staffing agency hires employees for a companies temporary or contract hiring needs. In this situation the job seeker is employed by the staffing agency and all wages, taxes, insurance, and benefits are paid by the staffing agency. The job seeker generally does not pay fees. The client company pays a premium hourly rate for the contract or temporary employee.
