Director of Training![]() Job Title Director of Training Kaplan Division Kaplan University City Orlando State/Province Florida FT/PT Full Time Job Level Director Required Working Hours Days Job Description Purpose of the Job/Principal Responsibilities: The mission of the KU Training and Development Department is to utilize a consistent approach, applying adult learning theory to provide world-class learning interventions, which ultimately improve performance and assist KU enrollment teams to achieve their business objectives. The Director of Training will be responsible for hiring, managing and developing a training team to support the new-hire and existing Advisor needs. The main responsibilities will be as follows: . maintain a partnering relationship with Management at their location, . conduct frequent needs assessments . coordinate with the Curriculum Development team to create content . respond to feedback and adjust curriculum and delivery accordingly . respond to immediate business needs for training The Training Specialist plays an integral role in achieving our mission. The Training Specialist will be responsible for learning interventions which may include all or some of the following: . New-hire Training . Continuing Education . Individual coaching . Group training . Writing of curriculum . Updating written materials . Managing/Reinforcement of e-Learning The Director of Training is responsible for staying current in terms of content, training and coaching trends, modifying and improving training based on participant and management feedback, and bringing in guest speakers and outside experts where appropriate. The Director of Trainings effectiveness will be measured on the performance and/or improved performance of participants of their teams learning intervention sessions. Typical activities for the Director of Training will include: New-Hire Training . The Director of Training will be responsible for all aspects of training a new-hire to perform successfully in their new position. New Hire Training will include but will not be limited to: Preparation of curriculum and delivery of material Updating collateral, new hire binders, slides, and coordinating with other departments including IT and administration to ensure that new hire training is launched successfully Preparing and delivering training modules on an ongoing basis Managing mentor programs to reinforce training Reinforcing skills learned in new-hire training through one-on-one coaching . Develop curriculum and leader guides for training, and support other departments as needed . Other tasks as assigned by the VP or Executive Director of Training and Development Position Requirements/Scope of Job/Skills Required: . Minimum 5 years of corporate training experience. . Management experience . Computer literate with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office and an emphasis in PowerPoint. . Must be able to work some evenings and weekend hours. . Must be able to travel to other locations including the Boca and Chicago offices. . Excellent oral and written communication skills. . Attention to detail. . Must have the ability to communicate accurately and positively by telephone, e-mail, and other media to internal customers, including other Kaplan University and KHE departments. . Ability to follow processes, policy and work effectively on a team and maintain a positive attitude. Coach and Develop New and Existing Admissions Advisors: . The Director Training assists the training staff to effectively provide feedback and ultimately improve the skills and mechanics typical of a successful Admissions Advisor. . The Director of Training will continually evaluate what works and what doesnt work in terms of skill, team dynamics, and quantitative results and make improvements where appropriate. . Responsible for promoting effective communication and coordination between the various departments involved in improving student start rates. New Hire Training: The Director of Admissions Training will participate and contribute to New Hire Training. This will include but not be limited to: . Preparation of Curriculum and delivery of material . Updating collateral, new hire binders, slides and coordinating with other departments including IT and Administration to ensure that new hire training is launched successfully on a consistent basis. . Preparing and delivering training modules. Existing Advisor Development: . The Director of Admissions Training will disseminate training information primarily through the Training Managers, Associate Directors and Directors of Admissions . Responsibilities may include revising and distributing written materials including script updates, announcements, shared documents etc. Career Development: The Director of Training is likely to manage Training Specialists and is therefore responsible for attending seminars, conducting research and otherwise ensuring that his/her necessary management skills are in place. Some of these skills include: organizational ability, reporting, train-the-trainer skills etc. Measurement of Success: . Ability to learn required and updated processes and follows the processes correctly and productively. . Ability to transfer knowledge and skills to Training staff, Admissions Advisors and other Kaplan employees. . Responsible for the Training Teams ability to maintain acceptable attrition rates of the new Admissions Advisors during their first six weeks of employment by providing supplemental training support to those in need. . Responsibility for the Training Teams ability to improve metrics in specific areas assigned in an Advisors first six weeks. . Responsibility for the Training Teams ability to improve the metrics in specific areas of the Admissions process by coaching individual Advisors when requested by their Directors. . Ability to work effectively on a team, both within and across Kaplan University departments. . Ability to display a positive attitude and enthusiasm. . Strong work ethic. |
