The Peri-Operative Registered Nurse is a member of the patient care team, who with knowledge of the nursing process provides leadership in applying scientific principles and professional skills aimed at caring for the surgical patient while they journey through the operating room. The RN assists the physician in carrying out surgical procedures for each patient and acts as an advisor and leader of non-professional nursing personnel in providing nursing care to meet the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of individual patients. The RN implements the nursing process in conjunction with the physician preference orders in preparing the surgical sterile field, the operating room equipment, and all sterile instruments and supplies in order to provide professional, safe patient care. Experience/Qualifications: Current RN licensure in the state of Florida BLS Certified OR experience or completion Peri-Operative Course CNOR certification preferred Special Skills: Considerable knowledge of the procedures, materials, instruments and equipment that apply to surgery Ability to interpret, recognize, analyze, and even resolve some difficulties in patient care situations.-( troubleshoot) Performs independently and under pressure Demonstrates appropriate interaction with and provides recommended services to all patients. Exhibits knowledge and a basic understanding regarding the needs of the child, adolescent, young adult, adult and geriatric patients. Knowledgeable of principles of Universal Precautions, routinely and consistently makes use of these principles to reduce and avoid work-place exposure of infectious materials. Routinely and consistently makes appropriate use of personal protective equipment and infection control barriers and devices to avoid the risk of exposure of self and others. |
